Recentemente la rivista americana Time ha pubblicato la lista delle persone più influenti di questo 2020: tra questi 100 nomi, che contengono anche alcuni big come Jennifer Hudson, troviamo Megan Thee Stallion e The Weeknd.
Quest’ultimo, in una edizione speciale della nomination andata in onda sulla ABC, ha regalato un’esibizione di Blinding Lights, pezzo certificato multiplatino estratto dal suo ultimo disco After Hours.

Time ha anche rivelato titolo e copertina della rivista dedicata all’artista canadese: The Weeknd’s Time 100, foto scattata dal fotografo Nabil, con all’interno un tributo scritto dalla leggenda della musica Elton John.
Lo storico cantante e compositore britannico. in questo tributo, spiega il motivo per cui ha deciso di nominare Abel Tesfaye come artista più influente del 2020:
“He’s a mysterious figure in an era when mystery is rare in pop. And you never know what to expect next. He plays with personae in his music and presentation: on the After Hours cover, he’s dripping in blood; you’re never sure if he’s singing about himself, or if he’s in character. He’s got an incredible imagination.“Blinding Lights” is 2020’s best pop single, very ’80s-influenced, but it’s from an album that’s otherwise very introspective”
Megan si unisce a The Weeknd come una delle otto cover star di Time 100 di quest’anno. Il suo tributo è stato scritto dall’attrice nominata all’Oscar Taraji P. Henson, che ha elogiato la maestria e la forza del rapper recentemente coinvolta nel “caso Tory Lanez“, attraverso queste parole:
“There was something about this woman. Once you discover her, you become a fan,I don’t like to put the stigma of the word strong on Black women because I think it dehumanizes us, but she has strength—strength through vulnerability. She’s lost much of her family—her mother, her father, her grandmother—yet she is the epitome of tenacity, of pulling herself up by her bootstraps. She was shot this summer, and still people tried to tear her down. But she’s out here still loving and being sweet … The industry might try to pigeonhole her in this rap game, but she’s got a plan that’s much bigger. And we got her. I just want her to keep winning.”
Nella lista di quest’anno sono stati votati anche altri artisti come J Balvin, Halsey, Selena Gomez e JoJi Siwa.
